The first time we met each other was around 7 years ago. I was still 15 years of age and he was 25 years old; we were 10 years apart. He and his dad came to visit Surabaya, Indonesia for business and they stayed at my house. His parents and my parents are friends for a long time. At the time, nothing sparked between us as we have a huge age gap. I was about to continue my studies in the US and he lives in Hong Kong. It kinda seem impossible. Years passed; I graduated my bachelor degree and I move back to Indonesia. One day, my parents had asked me to go with them to Bali for a wedding and it turned out to be his sister’s wedding. We finally met each other again on June 2014 for only one night. Again, I would say it was quite impossible to hit it off in one night, as he has to go back to Hong kong the next day for work. But we did; he asked for my number and we just started texting away all day everyday.
Our wedding was held at The Royal Santrian Villas Bali. We went on a few other amazing venues to check them out before deciding anything, like for example Alilas Villas, The Mulia Resort, The Ritz- Carlton Bali, and also Bvlgari Hotel. In the end, I just fell in love with The Royal Santrian. Their vibe and ambience just scream romance and intimate; and they also have the design that is perfect for my specific wedding theme. The one thing that seals the deals for me was I can book the entire villas all to ourselves and it’s a beachfront resort! I always imagine my wedding to be overlooking the beach and ocean.
We did have a particular theme which is a Moroccan Palace theme. I was just so inspired by the details and glamour of that they have. We stuck to a 3 color scheme, which are white mostly with a touch of gold and pink hues. For me, my favourite color is white as it just screams elegance and sophistication. The gold was to add a little bit of glamour to the design and the pink hues were a touch of sweetness. I spent a whole year just to prepare for the wedding.
My favourite photo from the wedding was when we release the balloons on the beach. I think it’s just one of the coolest photo taking. I had mixed feelings about it, but mainly excited and happy. I feel like I’m someone’s wife now and I have responsibilities towards for the rest of my life. No longer are we going to be long distance, but we will be able to see each other everyday and grow old together. On the other hand, I was feeling sad that I would have to leave my family and friends to move to Hong Kong and I won’t be able to see them as much.
One particular moment that was special to me was I think during my speech to my parents, I just can’t hold back my tears and can’t thank them enough for what they’ve given me my whole life. What I will always remember most about our wedding was the fact that Louis had asked John Legend to send us a wedding message (I don’t know how but he manage to pull it off) and he was singing ‘all of me’ in front of all our guests at the wedding. I will never forget that moment. Just being able to celebrate and share our happiness with our closest family and friends, that meant the world to us.
