Our magical day was held at Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa. We had visited several resorts and villas in Phuket but Renaissance captured our heart immediately. From the magical sunsets to the exceptional service, it was the perfect venue for a wedding and to house our guests who were flying in to be part of the celebrations. We didn’t have a particular theme for the wedding. If anything, our theme was to make sure it was the most fun and carefree event for both us and our guests. I opted to play with colors instead and worked on a moodboard to piece together my dream wedding.
For the wedding ceremony, I opted for Ivory and Gold. I wanted to keep it classy and romantic with the sunset as a backdrop. Our wedding planner team had constructed an alter that was unbelievably romantic and whimsical that set itself perfectly amid the Renaissance garden and the Andaman Sea. For the wedding reception dinner, I picked Blush and Champagne with focus on the flower arrangements. As our wedding was at the start of the monsoon season, our wedding team had strongly advised to hold the dinner under a tent. I was not keen on it but with the magic of fairy lights and the colors we had chosen to go with, the dinner reception was stunning and very reminiscent of a fairytale setup.
We took less than eight months to plan our wedding. They were the most exciting months of my life. We thoroughly enjoyed planning our wedding in that short timeframe. We arrived in Phuket a four days before the wedding. On the day we arrived, it rained so badly; I was told that I had to seriously consider moving the wedding and reception to the ballroom. The dream wedding we had been working on for months seemed like an impossible task. Added to that, the thought of having my wedding in a ballroom when guests were flying in to witness a beach ceremony was truly depressing. By God’s grace and to the surprise of everyone, the weather changed tremendously and when our wedding weekend came, the magnificent weather and the gorgeous sun came out to play.
I woke up feeling like the luckiest girl on earth that morning. I was smiling all day long knowing I was going to walk down the aisle to the love of my life. It was the happiest day of my life and I spent every moment in excitement. Even my photographers commented on my enthusiasm and said I kept them excited through the day. We ended up getting extra images than what we signed up for. Day 1, we kicked off our celebrations with a Welcome Cocktail on the night our guests arrived. It was meant to be beach casual and a short event to welcome our guests to the property. It was far from it. The décor was beautiful, making great use of the Sand Bar’s existing design and elevating it to give off a relaxed party mood. After our guests had drinks and food, the AV team at the hotel was kind enough to allow us to play our own music after getting permission from other guests who came by to congratulate us. The night ended three hours later than it was supposed to as we all danced the night away on the cool Phuket sand.
Day 2, our wedding ceremony took place on the beach lawn at 5pm leading into the dinner reception at sunset. The special moment was when my father came to get me at my villa for my walk down the aisle. I have never seen him happier. The photos of the ceremony do more justice than I can put in words. It was a ceremony that was lighthearted and depicted Prem and I as a couple. Followed by the ceremony, were the pre-dinner cocktails on the beach and the photo session. The dinner reception kicked off with our entrance to the venue (beautiful tent on the lawn) with our family and friends holding up sparklers to welcome us as newly weds. The dinner reception had beautiful speeches and games before we adjourned to outside the tent for the champagne toast as the fireworks came on. It was truly a magical moment and a fairytale wedding. Following the dinner reception, we led our guests to the ballroom where we had a club-like setup where we danced and partied the night away. We had welcome packs for our guests which included a ‘Hangover Kit’ which our guests found very useful the next day.
One of my favorite photos were taken at sunset when our photographer took us away from our guests. My husband and I watched the beautiful sunset and he just held me tightly. During that moment, my husband had actually whispered in my ears that he felt like the luckiest guy in the world. It was a very poignant moment. Every moment was a dream come true for us. I would have to highlight the fireworks though. I am a fireworks fanatic and I run towards places when fireworks are on. I wanted to be conscious of the budget for the wedding but my husband wanted me to have my own fireworks display no matter the expenses. When my husband proposed, he told me he was going to give me my dream wedding. Before I met him, I had never envisioned a dream wedding and yet marrying him was the most natural thing in the world. Fueled by love, we picked and pieced together our wedding. As we watched the fireworks that night, there are no words to express the happiness and love that engulfed me. To date, our guests talk about how the fireworks in Singapore pale in comparison to what we had at our wedding.
Advice for Brides-to-be
GET AN AMAZING WEDDING PLANNER! A destination wedding while it is exciting comes with a lot of work. If you want to enjoy the wedding process and remain sane, hire a wedding planner who knows the inner workings and is able to deliver results. Most importantly, get a wedding planner who is in constant touch with you.
Apart from that, enjoy the process. Let the disappointments go and embrace the things that have gone right. Involve your partner in the planning but ensure you set aside time to enjoy each other’s company. A wedding is a dream come true only when it entails marrying the love of your life.
