From the bride: “Tam and I are American and live in Philadelphia. He is Vietnamese and I am Filipino so we are often asked why Thailand? Tam and I have always shared a love for travel. In fact, the first few years of our relationship was long distance as we were both traveling for our jobs, he in the military and myself as a consultant. We wanted to have a destination wedding because we wanted to share with our family and friends our love for travel and adventure. We didn’t want to decide between Vietnam or the Philippines so we decided on the country where we took our first big vacation to: Thailand. Thailand will always have a special place in our heart.”

Flashback question - how did you two meet? “Tam and I are both from the United States. We met in a bar in Philadelphia during my last year of college. I wasn’t interested at first but Tam pursued me until I finally gave him a chance and the rest is history.”

How did you choose your venue in Thailand? “Our wedding was at the Sri Panwa Resort in Cape Panwa, Phuket. We planned our entire wedding via e-mail with our wedding planner at Sri Panwa, Aeh. We never saw the venue in person until the week of our wedding and we knew right away we picked the perfect location. Sri Panwa’s sweeping ocean views as a backdrop to our ceremony gave us the most beautiful wedding we could have ever imagined. We kept our décor simple and let the beauty of our surroundings speak for itself.”

Can you explain how you celebrated both of your cultural roots during the wedding? “In order to represent Tam’s Vietnamese culture, we incorporated a tea ceremony. I wore a red Ao Dai traditionally  worn by Vietnamese brides and Tam wore a Barong Tagalog to represent my Filipino culture.Vietnamese tea ceremonies are meant to honor those in your family who have passed away and was especially emotional for us as Tam’s mother passed away when he was around 12. There wasn’t a single dry eye during our tea ceremony and there was no denying that she was there with us, making sure we felt her love.”

What kind of emotions did you feel throughout your wedding? “We were so overwhelmed with emotions during our wedding but most of all we were beyond thankful to be able to celebrate our love for each other in one of the most beautiful places in the world, surrounded by all our family and friends.”

Advice for future brides? “Planning a wedding especially a destination wedding can be extremely stressful and although we all strive to have the perfect wedding day, there is always something that is bound to not go as planned. During your wedding day or week, try to enjoy the moment as much as possible and trust the people that you’ve hired to do their jobs. Spend as much as time as you can with your husband/wife because after all, everyone is together for the purpose of celebrating your love.”
