From AWN Founder & Bride Michelle: After 1 year of preparation, we finally had our dream wedding and got married at Conrad Koh Samui in May! We chose this venue because we wanted to get married in the stunning island of Koh Samui, the venue just fit our 80 person guest list, and I’ve always dreamed of having a wedding on water. The theme of our wedding was tropical romance and with the hands-on full year of preparation and planning help from our team from Weddings by AT, all the details and decor were perfectly executed to fit what we envisioned. All the details of the 3 day long celebration were beautifully captured by Ariya and Vita from The Story & Co. from Bali. The weekend started off with a bridal shower and a bachelor party the day before the wedding as well as a welcome dinner in the evening under the big, bright moon.
The whole day was sunny but when we got back to the hotel, we were shocked to learn that there was a monsoon that just happened at Conrad during our welcome dinner, where we enjoyed clear skies because it was on another part of the island. We were so worried about the weather would be like the next day because all the staff said it had been crazy raining everyday in the afternoon and evening.
We had so much fun creating our invitations and we were so happy with how they turned out. Designed by Wedding Shop World, our invitations featured a romantic tropical luxe vibe and were then printed and pressed by The Fine Press from Indonesia. We had a boarding pass, a map of Koh Samui, a main invite, and a light lavender tri-fold envelope to keep everything together. Everything, including our envelope, was meticulously letter pressed and rose gold foiled by The Fine Press.
Kai, my now-husband, and I couldn’t sleep the night before our wedding because we were so excited and nervous. The day started off with my bridesmaids getting ready at our villa. They all looked so gorgeous thanks to Polina Pak, our makeup artist team based in Koh Samui! She used airbrush makeup on everyone so in case there were tears, we were in the clear. My bridesmaids wore bridesmaids dresses and bridesmaids robes from Wedding Shop World, and each one looked so beautiful and elegant. They even wore matching earrings the I included in their bridesmaids gift - also from Wedding Shop World. I started the day wearing a white ‘bride’ robe and then a qipao, both from Wedding Shop World, as I was getting ready for my ‘bai bie’ (a Taiwan tradition of saying ‘goodbye’ to your parents) and for the tea ceremony.
When we got to my parents villa, I went downstairs to their bedroom and watched the door games, organized by Chin Chin Weddings, begin upstairs through my planner’s phone. Once they were over, Kai came downstairs and brought me upstairs to ‘say goodbye’ to my parents. It was very emotional for everyone and I was a bit sad but still very happy to be marrying the man of my dreams. We then left to go and have the tea ceremony with Kai’s parents where I served both of my parents in-laws tea and officially called them ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad.’
After lunch, I changed into my absolutely stunning Giorgia Couture wedding dress which Vienna Mei, the Founder, and I worked on together for months! I told her what I envisioned and she made it happen, adding a bit of her own creative touches. She personally flew over to do the fitting with my mom and I a couple of months before my wedding, and we were blown away at the beauty of the dress. I got so many compliments on the wedding dress and I was so in love with it that I wore it again for our Taiwan wedding a month later.
When I arrived at the ceremony venue I was so shocked. Our decorator, iamflower from Phuket, did an unbelievable job. Before my wedding, I told them that I wanted something different yet elegant, and didn’t block the beautiful Koh Samui ocean view, and they delivered just that with beautiful golden arches, elegant crystal strands, creatively placed florals. I loved the decoration so much that I almost cried when I saw it! The color matching, attention to detail, and creativity was beyond amazing and everyone was so impressed.
When I walked down the aisle with my dad, I couldn’t stop crying because I couldn’t believe everything that was happening. When my dad gave my hand to Kai, it was moment I will never forget and thankfully, The Story & Co captured every little detail to help us relive the memories in the future.
Everyone had so much fun at the dinner reception and was once again blown away by the stunning decor created by iamflower. Weddings by AT told them to really stick to the ‘tropical luxury’ theme, even spray painting in gold all the tropical leaves on each centerpiece, my bouquet, and my bridesmaids and mother corsages to truly commit to our tropical luxe theme with my favorite color, lavender. We gave out little gold pineapple bottle openers from Wedding Shop World that matched perfectly with the table setting.
After our dads and our friends made their speeches, it was time to cut our wedding cake. It took a team of four to bring out our five layer cake made by Lily’s Cakes and we were so in love with it! When I met Lily a couple months back, I basically just told her to follow the ‘tropical luxury’ theme, add some light lavender, and follow her creative instincts - and surprise me! I didn’t want to give too much creative control and I was so happy that I trusted her because this cake was beyond incredible.
After Kai and I gave our speeches, the father and daughter dance, and our first dance, our entertainment vendor, Air Samui, gave us a little surprise. The Founder, Kathi performed a beautiful acrobatic dance for us with ‘Perfect Symphony’ as the background music. To this day, I still can’t believe we had acrobatics at our wedding!
I then went back and changed into my last dress, also from Wedding Shop World, and came back with Kai to enter our path of sparklers. We went straight onto the dance floor where we performed a flashmob with some of our bridesmaids and groomsmen, as well as dancers from Air Samui, to the Korean song ‘Good Boy’ before everyone else came onto the dance floor to start dancing!
The night ended with a fire dance show that was so much fun! It didn’t rain one drop during our wedding night, which was such a surprise because it proceeded to rain and thunderstorm every night after that, so the fire show dancers were able to do the on the rocks in the ocean. They created such a spectacle and definitely ended the night with a bang!
The day after our wedding, was our official afterparty where we organised two yachts, one for our parents and one for us, to take us into the beautiful Koh Samui oceans. Everyone had so much fun and it was the perfect ending to our wedding weekend!
