From the bride: “Right after the engagement, we already started the wedding planning. We first booked the reception venue which is The Peninsula Manila, and then the church Santurio de San Jose. Weeks after were filled with research, looking at portfolios of different Filipino wedding suppliers. We also went to every bridal expo to see other options. The wedding planning took 1 year and 2 months! It had to be this long because we wanted to have our pre-nup shoot in our favorite city: London. The pre-nup shoot was also worth mentioning because we chose to hire a London based production company to shoot both a prenup photo and prenup video. For the video, we were riding a vespa around London. It was quite an experience! The said video was shown to our guests in the reception before we made our grand entrance, everybody was amazed by it.”
First off, how did you two meet? “We were introduced to each other by common friends way back in 2012. I had a boyfriend back then, so it was just a casual meet up. The next time we saw each other again was March of 2013. I was already single then. We were in a party and he was kind enough to accompany me since we were the only ones single at that time and place. That night I discovered how kind he was, I got to know him better compared to the first time we met. I could not explain it but during that night, I just wanted to spend more time with him. And that’s what we did, next couple days we were just inseparable, we would go out everyday. He would visit me at home, willingly cook delicious meal for my family and friends (he’a an award winning chef). January 2017, we were in London. He hired a photographer to follow us while we explore the beauty of the city. At our last stop, in front of the Big Ben over looking the Parliament square, he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!”
Describe your wedding! “The proposal happened in London, hence that city will always be special to us. It is only natural for us to draw inspirations for the look and theme of our wedding from that place. London is synonymous with the most famous royal family and monarchy. The architecture, the look, the culture and the overall vibe of London were something we wanted to be incorporated in our wedding. However, we did not go full royal wedding for our theme. One, we are not royalty and are not trying to be. Also, we felt that having a royal wedding as a theme would be very difficult to pull off. Taking all these into consideration, the best word to describe the theme our wedding was “regal”. Something really elegant, classy and timeless without going overboard with grandeur and extravagance. We instructed our stylist to utilise chandeliers and candelabras as the main elements in decorating the venue. It was accented by deep red roses and carnations that set the dramatic mood for our reception.”
What colors and themes did you use? “For the color motif of our wedding we chose the colors powder blue and deep red as these were our favourite colors individually. Powder blue was used mainly for the dresses and the ties of the entourage, while the deep red was used as the main color for the styling of the reception. These two colors are also good representations of our personalities. Powder blue for Fritzie as she is light hearted and carefree. For me deep red because I’m more serious and intense.”
Tell us something unique about your wedding! “Our wedding was a bit more intimate compared to other weddings in the Philippines. We only had less than 220 attendees. And because it was a bit intimate, we had to make sure to have a nice program that all our guests will enjoy. We took a different approach for the “getting to know the couple” part of our wedding. Instead of the showing the very cliché growing up photos we decided to use a very visual trivia game. The questions focused on our “firsts” and milestones as a couple. Each question had a specific picture to go along with it, and the choices for the questions were pictures too. One question asked what was the first movie we saw together. Another question was about our first gifts to each other and so on. In this way we got our guests to actively participate and be really involved instead of just watching another AVP.”
What kind of emotions did you feel throughout the day? Was there one particular moment that was very special to you?
Bride Fritzie: "April 21, 2018 is the our wedding day. We chose that date because it’s one day after our 5th year anniversary as boyfriend and girlfriend. I personally was just so excited on that day. I even had to take some mild sleeping pills the night before just to calm myself. All through out the day, it was like I was floating. The moment the church door opened, all i saw was my (future) husband standing at the altar waiting for me. It’s so hard to choose a special moment because everything was just so beautiful that day. But if I had to choose one, it had to be when I was saying my personal vows to Justin. Because it highlighted and brought back all the reasons and memories why I fell in love with him, and it was just heartwarming.”
Groom Justin: “One of the highlights during out wedding was when Fritzie surprised me by singing a few lines during her friends’ song performance. Fritzie always claimed that she was an excellent singer, she would brag about being a member of a singing organization back in college BUT she would never sing for me during our five years together. NEVER. So when she suddenly stood up with a mic in her hand and sang to me a few lines from the song You by Basil Valdez, I was really blown away. At first I was annoyed in a good way because we promised that we won’t have surprises for each other but immediately after that, I was really mesmerized by her as she sang her heart out for me.”
Advice for future brides?
Bride Fritzie: “Enjoy every minute of it. There will be times you and your fiancé will fight a lot, but at the end of the day go back to the reason why you’re marrying each other., forgive, be humble, and just love each other. When it comes to your suppliers, be nice to them but remind them as well that they should do their job properly and that they should deliver.”
Groom Justin: “Check and review your suppliers’ portfolio and past projects before booking them, so you know what to expect!”
